facilities on Hyde End Road

Alternatively, if you live in Shinfield you can walk to Langley Mead; there is a pedestrian access point that can be reached by walking down Millworth Lane; just to the South of the Bell & Bottle Pub and Shinfield Infant and Nursery School by the village green.

Additional pedestrian and cycle access to the main Langley mead car park is planned for the future.

If you are coming from the direction of Reading or the M4

Leave or cross over the M4 at Junction 11 and initially head south down the A33. Take the first left into Three Mile Cross and follow the Basingstoke Road over the first mini-roundabout through Three Mile Cross and towards Spencers Wood; at which point turn left onto the B3349 Hyde End Road and keep going until you reach Langley Mead’s car park on your right – if you reach Shinfield itself you have gone too far.

If you are coming from the Wokingham or Arborfield Direction

Join the A327 towards Shinfield at Arborfield or Arborfield Cross. Travel over the River Loddon and then turn left at the roundabout in Shinfield onto the B3349 Hyde End Road. Keep going until you reach Langley Mead’s car park on your left. If you reach Spencers Wood you have gone too far.

If you are coming from the Basingstoke Direction

Leave the A33 just before you reach the M4 – you’ll need to be in the right-hand filter lane signposted Spencers Wood and Three Mile Cross. Follow the Basingstoke Road through Three Mile Cross and over the first mini roundabout towards Spencers Wood; at which point turn left onto the B3349 Hyde End Road and keep going until you reach Langley Mead’s car park on your right – if you reach Shinfield itself you have gone too far.

If you are coming by Bus

At the time of writing:

  • The number 3 bus service between Reading and Wokingham stops at Shinfield, after which you need to walk South down Hyde End Road and access Langley Mead via the Millworth Lane pedestrian access;
  • The number 111 bus service between Reading, Risely and Swallowfield, and the number 72 Bus service between Aldershot and Reading (passing through Hartley Wintney, Riseley and Swallowfield) both run along the A33 and stop at Spencers Wood. Be warned – from here it is about a 2km walk eastwards along Hyde End Road to reach the main Langley Mead Car Park.
